Dapoxetine and vardenafil treat different problems
This section holds 29 lines from £32 to £198, averaging near £77, and it contains two distinct drug classes for two distinct complaints. Buying the wrong one is the most common mistake here, and the category name does not help.
Which problem is which
| Drug | Sold as | Treats |
|---|---|---|
| Vardenafil | Vilitra, Filitra, Valif, Zhewitra, Snovitra | Erectile dysfunction |
| Dapoxetine | Priligy, Poxet, Duratia, Duralast | Premature ejaculation |
| Combinations | Tadapox, Super Tadapox | Both, in one tablet |
These are not variations on a theme. An erection problem and finishing too quickly are separate complaints with separate mechanisms, and a drug for one does very little for the other.
Vardenafil, in one paragraph
It is a PDE5 inhibitor, the same class as sildenafil and tadalafil. It acts on blood flow, requires arousal to do anything, and sits between the two on duration. Its practical distinction is being somewhat less affected by food than sildenafil, and it is generally considered a touch more potent milligram for milligram.
If you have already tried sildenafil without success, vardenafil is a reasonable next thing rather than a categorically different one. Avanafil is the option with genuinely fewer visual side effects.
Dapoxetine is something else entirely
Dapoxetine is a short-acting SSRI. Delayed ejaculation is a well-known effect of SSRIs generally, and dapoxetine was designed to exploit that deliberately: it is absorbed and cleared quickly, so it can be taken an hour or two before rather than daily like an antidepressant.
It was developed and licensed specifically for premature ejaculation, which makes it one of the better-evidenced things in this catalogue. It does nothing for erections.
The interaction that matters
Because dapoxetine is an SSRI, it must not be combined with other serotonergic drugs — antidepressants in particular — because of serotonin syndrome risk. Anyone already taking an SSRI or SNRI should treat the combination products in this section as unsuitable rather than as a convenience.
That is a genuine hazard and it is the single most important safety point on this page. Nausea and dizziness are the common effects; combining alcohol with it makes both worse.
The combination tablets
Tadapox-type products pair tadalafil with dapoxetine, covering both complaints in one tablet. They suit someone who genuinely has both. For someone with only one, a combination product means taking a drug you do not need alongside the one you do, with its side effects and its interactions.
If desire rather than function is the issue
Neither class does anything for desire. PT-141 works on the melanocortin pathway centrally and is the different-mechanism option. Low desire also has causes worth investigating rather than medicating, including low testosterone, which is a blood test rather than a guess.
Legal position
Vardenafil and dapoxetine are both prescription-only medicines in the UK. Nothing here is medical advice, and persistent erectile dysfunction in particular can be an early sign of cardiovascular disease and is worth a clinical conversation rather than a purchase. Supplier checks are in how to check a brand is genuine.
Reading a listing in this section
Brand names dominate here and they do not tell you the compound. Vilitra, Filitra, Valif, Zhewitra and Snovitra are all vardenafil. Poxet, Duratia, Duralast, Vriligy and Priligy are all dapoxetine. Tadapox and Super Tadapox are combinations.
Checking which molecule you are buying takes a moment and it is the difference between treating your actual complaint and treating a different one. Most of these are Indian-manufactured generics of European originators, which is ordinary for this class rather than a warning sign.
Frequently asked questions
Is dapoxetine an erection drug?
No. It is a short-acting SSRI for premature ejaculation and does nothing for erections.
How does vardenafil differ from sildenafil?
Same class and mechanism. Slightly more potent by weight and less affected by food.
Can dapoxetine be taken with an antidepressant?
No. It is itself an SSRI, and combining serotonergic drugs risks serotonin syndrome.
Are the combination tablets a good idea?
Only if you genuinely have both problems. Otherwise you are taking a drug you do not need.
Why are two different drug classes in one category?
An inherited categorisation. Read the compound name on the listing rather than the section title.
