What anastrozole does

Arimidex bodybuilding use comes down to one job: lowering circulating oestradiol on a cycle that aromatises. Anastrozole blocks the aromatase enzyme, so less testosterone converts to oestrogen and blood oestradiol falls. That is genuinely different from what a SERM does, and the distinction decides which one you need. This section carries 56 lines from £14 to £210, clustered near £56.

Inhibitor or modulator

Aromatase inhibitors against SERMs
Anastrozole (AI) Tamoxifen (SERM)
Blood oestradiol Lowered Unchanged
Water retention Addressed Not addressed
Restarts LH and FSH No Yes
Usual phase On cycle After cycle

They are complements rather than alternatives, which is why both sit in post cycle therapy despite doing opposite things to circulating oestradiol. Using a SERM to control bloating does not work, because circulating oestradiol has not moved.

The mistake almost everyone makes

Dosing without measuring. Aromatisation varies enormously between people and between compounds — the same dose that leaves one person in range crashes another, and there is no way to know which you are without a test.

It is worth stating plainly that oestrogen is not the enemy. It is necessary for libido, joint health, lipids, bone and mood. The goal is a normal range, not zero. People who feel terrible on cycle despite everything else going right are very often crashed rather than high, and the symptoms overlap enough that guessing produces the wrong correction about half the time.

Where Arimidex fits across a cycle

Its place is on cycle rather than after it, and only where an aromatising compound is actually running — there is nothing for it to do alongside a non-aromatising compound such as stanozolol or trenbolone. Started at the same time as the cycle and adjusted from bloods around week three, it holds oestradiol in range through the run. Starting it later, once symptoms have already appeared, means chasing a level that has been elevated for weeks rather than holding one steady from the outset. Carrying it into recovery is a mistake — suppressing oestrogen while trying to restart the axis works against the SERM, and reversible binding means stopping it abruptly can spike oestradiol at the worst possible moment.

What crashed oestradiol feels like

Aching joints, complete loss of libido, flat mood, lethargy, poor sleep, and lipids that worsen beyond what the anabolic alone would cause. It is frequently mistaken for the cycle not working, which prompts a dose increase that makes it worse. A sensitive oestradiol assay alongside total testosterone distinguishes it from the opposite problem in a single measurement.

Where it sits against the alternatives

Anastrozole binds reversibly, which means stopping it can produce an oestrogen rebound as accumulated enzyme becomes available at once. Exemestane binds irreversibly and avoids that, which is why it is often preferred heading into recovery. Letrozole is more potent and is usually the wrong default. The three are compared in anastrozole versus exemestane versus letrozole.

Hemi Pharma, Pharmaqo Labs and Hilma Biocare carry the deepest ranges here, listed as Anastrozole, Arimidex, Arimimed and Anastrozol at 1 mg — the standard clinical tablet strength. Most protocols use a fraction of a tablet rather than a whole one, which is why splitting them is common and why the £14 floor represents rather more doses than the price suggests.

Frequently asked questions

What does Arimidex do for bodybuilding?
It lowers circulating oestradiol on an aromatising cycle, which addresses water retention, the blood pressure that follows, and gynecomastia risk.

Does Arimidex make you leaner?
It reduces water retention, which reads as leaner. It has no fat-loss mechanism.

Which is better, Nolvadex or Arimidex?
Different jobs. Arimidex lowers oestradiol on cycle; Nolvadex blocks the receptor and restarts signalling afterwards.

What does Arimidex do to men?
It reduces oestrogen production. Too much of that reduction causes joint pain, lost libido and worsened lipids, which is why dosing from a blood test matters.

Do I need an AI on every cycle?
Only with aromatising compounds, and only if oestradiol is actually elevated. Non-aromatising compounds do not need one at all.
