Dianabol Side Effects, and Which Ones Actually Matter

Dianabol (methandienone) produces fast, visible results and a predictable set of side effects. Most discussion focuses on the cosmetic ones — bloating, puffiness — which are the least important. The ones that matter are blood pressure, liver enzymes and lipids, and none of the three announce themselves.

Sorted by what actually matters

Serious, and silent

  • Blood pressure. Methandienone raises it through water and sodium retention and through direct vascular effects. It produces no symptoms until it is substantially elevated. A cheap home monitor is the single most useful thing you can buy alongside it.
  • Liver strain. It is 17-alpha-alkylated to survive first-pass metabolism, which is precisely what loads the liver. ALT and AST rise in most users. Usually reversible on cessation — usually is not always, and cycle length is the main determinant.
  • Lipids. HDL falls sharply, often severely, while LDL rises. This is one of the more pronounced oral steroids in that respect and the effect is invisible without a blood test.

Visible, and manageable

  • Water retention. Methandienone aromatises readily. Expect facial puffiness and a softer look — a substantial share of early weight gain is water, and it leaves when the compound does.
  • Gynecomastia. A real risk because of that aromatisation. Once glandular tissue develops it does not resolve on its own. Aromatase inhibitors are used to control it; early tenderness is the warning sign to act on.
  • Acne and oily skin. Common, dose-dependent, resolves after.

Worth knowing

  • Testosterone suppression. Rapid and near-total. Post-cycle therapy is not optional if you want your own production back in reasonable time.
  • Appetite and mood. Both typically increase; irritability is commonly reported.

It works quickly and visibly — strength and size move within the first two weeks, which is far faster than injectable esters. That is why it is so often used as a kickstart at the front of a longer cycle.

It is also cheap and oral, which removes the injection barrier for beginners. That combination is exactly why it is one of the most misused compounds in the category.

What to actually monitor

Blood pressure weekly at home. Bloods before, mid-cycle and after: ALT, AST, full lipid panel, total and free testosterone, oestradiol. That set catches everything above while it is still reversible.

Cycle length matters more with orals than with injectables, because hepatic load is cumulative. Longer is not proportionally better — the returns diminish while the liver burden does not.

What we stock

Our methandienone category carries 137 lines across many brands, sold variously as Dianabol, Danabol, Dianabolan, Methandienone and Metilver. As with stanozolol, the naming fragments the category — search by category rather than by name, and compare on price per mg.

Frequently asked questions

How much of the weight gain is water?

A substantial share. Expect to lose several kilos in the weeks after stopping. What remains is the actual tissue gain.

Do I need an aromatase inhibitor with Dianabol?

It aromatises readily, so oestrogen control is commonly used. Do not dose an AI blindly — crashing oestradiol causes its own problems including joint pain and lipid damage. Bloods guide it.

Is liver damage from Dianabol permanent?

Usually reversible after cessation, with cycle length and dose being the main determinants. Elevated enzymes that do not normalise afterwards are a reason to see a doctor rather than to start another cycle.
