Turinabol (chlorodehydromethyltestosterone) has a reputation as the sensible oral — dry gains, no bloat, few dramatics. That is largely accurate on the oestrogen side and misleading everywhere else. It is still 17-alpha-alkylated, still hepatotoxic, and still fully suppressive.
What it actually is
Structurally it is methandienone with a chlorine atom added at the fourth carbon. That single change does two things: it prevents aromatisation, and it reduces androgenic potency.
So the comparison people should make is Turinabol against Dianabol, not against injectables. Same origin, one modification, very different experience.
Where the mild reputation holds
- No aromatisation. No oestrogen conversion, so no water retention and no gynecomastia risk from this compound. Genuinely true.
- Low androgenic activity. Less acne, less aggression, less hair-loss acceleration than most orals.
- Steady, retainable gains. Because little of it is water, what you gain is largely what you keep. Slower than Dianabol and considerably more of it stays.
Where it does not
- Liver. It is 17-alpha-alkylated. Hepatotoxicity is real and comparable to other orals. “Mild” refers to hormonal side effects, not hepatic ones — a conflation that costs people.
- Suppression is complete. Turinabol shuts down natural production thoroughly. Mild side effects lead people to skip PCT, which is exactly the mistake we describe in the Primobolan piece.
- Lipids take a hit. HDL falls notably. Non-aromatising orals are often worse here than aromatising ones, because oestrogen is protective for HDL.
The joint issue
No aromatisation means low oestradiol if it is your only compound, and oestrogen contributes to joint lubrication and collagen synthesis. Dry, achy joints are commonly reported — the same mechanism we describe for stanozolol.
Running it alongside a testosterone base largely resolves this, which is one good reason not to run it alone.
Who it suits
Someone wanting a lean, controlled addition to a cycle without water retention — often in a cutting phase or a lean bulk. It also suits people who react badly to oestrogenic side effects from other orals.
It does not suit anyone wanting dramatic short-term change; that is not what it does, and expecting it produces disappointment rather than a bad outcome.
Our turinabol and oral turinabol categories carry 80 lines between them, listed as Turinabol, Tbol, Turanabol, Turimed and Turinabolos.
Frequently asked questions
Is Turinabol safe for the liver?
No more than other 17-alpha-alkylated orals. Its mildness is on the hormonal side; the hepatic load is comparable.
Do I need PCT after a Turinabol-only cycle?
Yes. Suppression is complete despite the gentle side-effect profile. This is the most common and most costly misreading of “mild”.
Turinabol or Anavar?
Similar profiles — both dry, both mild on oestrogen, both suppressive. Anavar is gentler on lipids and considerably more expensive. See how long Anavar takes to work.
